Collection of Seven Canadian Booklets Relating to Bird Conservation. Ottawa: Department of the Interior, 1920s. Collection of seven booklets produced by the Canadian government in the wake of the 1917 Migratory Birds Convention Act. Part of a campaign to protect the bird population in the wake of overhunting, the booklets discuss the ecological value of birds, the importance of conservation efforts, and ways people can help, like building bird houses and feeding birds. Includes the following:
1) Lessons on Bird Protection. Ottawa: Department of the Interior, 1927. Stapled booklet, 16pp, discussing the value of birds and ongoing efforts to protect Canadian bird populations. Hint of soiling, pencil note to front cover.
2) Lloyd, Hoyes. Protection of Bird Neighbors. Ottawa: Department of the Interior, 1920. Booklet comprised of two folded leaves, 8pp. Booklet on protecting birds and the building of bird houses. Bit toned, pencil note to front cover.
3) Lloyd, Hoyes. Canada's Feathered Friends. Ottawa: Department of the Interior, [1920s], Stapled booklet, 6pp. Description of Canada's birds through the seasons, intended to promote the Migratory Birds Convention Act. Pencil note to front cover.
4) Merriman, R. Owen. Attracting Birds with Food and Water. Ottawa: Department of the Interior/F.A. Acland, 1923. Stapled booklet, 16pp. Pencil notes & doodles, to rear cover, some soiling & creasing, wrappers splitting along spine.
5) The Pileated Woodpecker. Ottawa: Department of the Interior/F.A. Acland, 1924. Folded leaf, 4pp. Offprint from the Canadian Field Naturalist. Bit toned, creased, ink inscription to front cover, removed from bound volume.
6) Bird's A National Asset Views of Provincial Ministers of Agriculture. Ottawa: Department of the Interior/F.A. Acland, 1926. Stapled booklet, 16pp, regarding reasons to protect the bird population. Minor toning, pencil inscription to front cover.
7) Taverner, P.A. Bird Houses and Their Occupants. Department of the Interior: 1922. Stapled booklet, 15pp. Third edition, reprinted from the Canadian Field Naturalist. Bit creased and toned, old glue residue along one side of front cover.
